Which Way Did She Go?!

Double Take!

Reptiles Rule

The finished piece

Another pure, 100% colored pencil piece to go with my “Ribbit!” Tree frog posted August 2nd. Had so much fun with the frog, instead of putting away my Polychromos, I allowed the crazy music to play, and let my pencils dance.

Work in progress

This little iguana took about 12 hours after my initial sketch. My materials consisted of a dozen or so Faber-Castell oil based Polychromos colored pencils, and a sheet of 9×12” Canson 120lb mixed media white paper.

A little more shading and he’s finished!

There’s something looking back at him, stage left! What do you suppose it could be?

Until next time ……. be curious

Adore this curious iguana!!! He’s more curious about stage left than I am… I’m just curious why he doesn’t look at me!

    1. Ah! Very much appreciate your comments Robin! He was a challenge to get in profile rather than glaring intently head on at onlookers! Maybe he’d turn his head and wink at you if you offered him an enticing banana slug! Thanks for taking a look!

  2. Phenomenal iguana, Barb! Are there zentangle patterns hidden in his skin? The detail on the skin is so precise and you can just imagine the feel of the bumpiness! Perhaps he is fixated on his next meal stage left?!

    1. Oh great observation Karen ….. the meal approaching, stage left! Really appreciate your comments on the iguana too. Nope, no Zentangle patterns anywhere. Just thousands of scales, bumps and spikes!

    1. Many many thanks Michele. This was really a challenge. And thanks for the feedback on work in progress photos. I don’t often remember to do that.

Barb, your iguana is just stunning! I’ve painted one before so I know how difficult they are to capture just right. 😊

    1. Thanks so so very much! They are such incredibly detailed creatures, requiring full attention. I’d love to see your painting and hear any tips or strategies you may have to represent the detail without putting in every single scale.
